PUBLIKAINDONESIA.COM, ABUJA – Nigeria mencatat tonggak bersejarah dalam pengelolaan keuangannya setelah resmi melunasi seluruh utang pokok sebesar USD 3,4 miliar kepada Dana Moneter Internasional (IMF), yang dipinjam selama masa pandemi COVID-19.
Dengan pelunasan ini, Nigeria kini bergabung dengan deretan negara seperti Swiss, Singapura, Tiongkok, dan Selandia Baru yang tidak lagi memiliki utang ke lembaga keuangan global tersebut.
Langkah ini dipandang sebagai pencapaian besar dalam upaya Nigeria memperkuat stabilitas ekonomi, sekaligus menunjukkan komitmen pemerintah terhadap pengelolaan fiskal yang bertanggung jawab.

Pemerintah Nigeria menilai pelunasan utang pokok ke IMF merupakan langkah strategis untuk mengurangi beban fiskal dan meningkatkan kepercayaan investor internasional.
Namun, para ahli menegaskan bahwa konsistensi dalam reformasi ekonomi, diversifikasi pendapatan negara, serta penguatan sektor domestik tetap menjadi kunci dalam mencapai kemandirian ekonomi jangka panjang.
Pelunasan ini menjadi semacam dorongan moral bagi negara-negara berkembang lainnya bahwa kemandirian fiskal adalah target yang mungkin tercapai jika diiringi dengan disiplin dan strategi ekonomi yang berkelanjutan.
