PUBLIKAINDONESIA, SAMARINDA – Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam (BKSDA) Kalimantan Timur berencana mengembangkan areal konservasi baru pada tahun 2025 guna melindungi bekantan (Nasalis larvatus), primata endemik Kalimantan yang saat ini menghadapi ancaman serius akibat kerusakan habitat.
Langkah ini diambil sebagai bagian dari upaya pelestarian keanekaragaman hayati di wilayah tersebut.
Kepala BKSDA Kaltim, Ari Wibawanto, mengungkapkan bahwa pengembangan areal konservasi baru akan diprioritaskan di kawasan yang memiliki keragaman hayati tinggi dan berpotensi menjadi habitat bekantan.
Teluk Balikpapan menjadi salah satu contoh lokasi yang tengah dikaji kelayakannya untuk dijadikan kawasan konservasi.
“Bekantan merupakan primata herbivora yang hidup di sepanjang muara sungai dan hutan mangrove. Karena keunikannya, bekantan perlu mendapatkan perlindungan khusus agar populasinya tetap lestari,” ujar Ari Wibawanto.
BKSDA Kaltim menegaskan bahwa keberhasilan program ini sangat bergantung pada dukungan masyarakat, organisasi non-pemerintah (NGO), dan pihak swasta.
Beberapa kawasan konservasi yang sudah ada, seperti Cagar Alam Teluk Adang dan Cagar Alam Teluk Apar di Kabupaten Paser, akan tetap dipertahankan dan ditingkatkan pengelolaannya.
Selain itu, BKSDA Kaltim akan memastikan bahwa hak-hak masyarakat yang tinggal di sekitar areal konservasi tetap dihormati.
Kolaborasi dengan pemilik lahan dan pihak swasta akan dilakukan untuk mendukung keberlanjutan upaya konservasi.
“Kami akan menyusun regulasi yang memungkinkan adanya kerja sama antara pemerintah, masyarakat, dan swasta dalam pengelolaan kawasan konservasi,” tambahnya.
Sebagai bagian dari strategi jangka panjang, BKSDA Kaltim secara rutin melakukan inventarisasi dan pengawasan di berbagai wilayah untuk memastikan kelestarian bekantan.
Selain itu, pengembangan areal konservasi di luar kawasan yang telah ditetapkan pemerintah diharapkan dapat memperluas area perlindungan dan meningkatkan populasi primata langka ini.
Dengan pendekatan yang inklusif dan berkelanjutan, BKSDA Kaltim optimis bahwa upaya konservasi bekantan dapat berjalan efektif.
