PUBLIKAINDONESIA.COM, BANJARMASIN – Tragedi kerusuhan berdarah yang mengguncang Banjarmasin pada 23 Mei 1997, atau yang dikenal sebagai “Jumat Kelabu”, ternyata belum tercantum dalam draf Buku Sejarah Indonesia yang tengah disusun ulang oleh Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi (Kemendikbudristek) RI. Fakta ini mengemuka dalam Diskusi Publik Draf Penulisan Buku Sejarah Indonesia, yang digelar di General Building Lecture Theater, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, Banjarmasin, pada Senin (28/7/2025).


Buku Sejarah Indonesia yang disusun dalam 10 jilid ini mencakup periode sejarah dari akar peradaban Nusantara hingga era konsolidasi demokrasi pascareformasi (1998–2024). Proyek nasional ini melibatkan 112 penulis yang terdiri dari sejarawan dan akademisi dari berbagai daerah di Indonesia.
Namun, ketiadaan tragedi “Jumat Kelabu” dalam draf tersebut menuai sorotan publik. Zulfaisal Putera, seorang aparatur sipil negara asal Banjarmasin, menjadi penanya pertama dalam sesi diskusi. Ia mempertanyakan alasan absennya peristiwa tragis yang menewaskan ratusan orang dan mengguncang Kalimantan Selatan itu.
“Tragedi ini belum pernah diusut tuntas oleh Komnas HAM hingga hari ini. Siapa dalangnya? Siapa yang bertanggung jawab? Saya mohon agar peristiwa ini dimasukkan dalam buku sejarah, supaya bangsa ini tahu bahwa Banjarmasin pernah luluh lantak karena kerusuhan. Padahal setahun sebelum kerusuhan besar di Jakarta,” ujar Zulfaisal.
Ia menambahkan bahwa penulisan sejarah seharusnya tak hanya mengandalkan riset kepustakaan, tetapi juga investigasi mendalam dan pendekatan multiperspektif agar objektivitas sejarah tetap terjaga.
Menanggapi hal tersebut, Prof. Erniwati, M.Hum, editor Jilid 9 Buku Sejarah Indonesia sekaligus Guru Besar Universitas Negeri Padang, mengakui bahwa tragedi “Jumat Kelabu” belum tercantum dalam bab bertajuk Akhir Orde Baru.
“Terus terang, kami belum memasukkan peristiwa itu. Karena memang sejak 1997 sudah banyak demonstrasi terjadi, terutama setelah krisis moneter dan isu KKN. Tapi puncaknya memang di Mei 1998. Saya akan coba telusuri lagi data terkait tragedi tersebut,” ucap Erniwati.
Ia juga menyampaikan apresiasi terhadap masukan dari masyarakat, khususnya dari Kalimantan Selatan, dan membuka kemungkinan untuk merevisi isi buku jika suatu peristiwa lokal terbukti memiliki dampak nasional yang signifikan.
Sementara itu, Direktur Jenderal Pelindungan Kebudayaan dan Tradisi Kemendikbudristek RI, Restu Gunawan, menyatakan bahwa diskusi publik ini memang dirancang sebagai ruang terbuka untuk menyerap suara masyarakat, termasuk sejarah-sejarah lokal yang selama ini terpinggirkan.
“Saat ini penyusunan buku sejarah sudah mencapai 80–90 persen. Tapi kami masih membuka ruang untuk revisi dan penyempurnaan, termasuk sejarah dari Kalimantan,” jelas Restu.
Ia menambahkan, sejarah Indonesia sangat luas dan tidak semua bisa dirangkum dalam satu buku. Namun ia tak menutup kemungkinan bahwa ke depan buku ini bisa terus berkembang.
“Siapa tahu, suatu saat kita bisa menerbitkan sejarah Indonesia hingga seratus jilid,” tutupnya.
Dengan terbukanya ruang diskusi seperti ini, masyarakat berharap tragedi besar seperti “Jumat Kelabu” tidak terlupakan dalam catatan sejarah nasional bukan hanya sebagai kenangan luka, tetapi juga sebagai pelajaran bangsa.
