PUBLIKAINDONESIA.COM, BANJARMASIN – Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) kembali membuktikan komitmennya dalam mengembangkan potensi lahan basah Kalimantan Selatan lewat inovasi berbasis produk lokal. Terbaru, mahasiswa KKN Tematik ULM di Kabupaten Tanah Bumbu berhasil mengolah cangkang kepiting menjadi kalsium, yang bermanfaat untuk mencegah osteoporosis.
“Alhamdulillah, mahasiswa ULM berinovasi mengolah cangkang kepiting menjadi produk kalsium,” ujar Rektor ULM, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, saat dihubungi, Rabu (20/8/2025).
Inovasi ini dinilai sangat potensial karena mengubah limbah laut yang biasa dibuang begitu saja menjadi produk bernilai tinggi dan bermanfaat untuk kesehatan. Selain itu, proyek ini juga membuka peluang usaha baru bagi masyarakat pesisir, khususnya nelayan.
“Ini sangat berguna bagi masyarakat, terutama di Kotabaru dan Tanah Bumbu. Selain bermanfaat untuk kesehatan, juga bisa membuka lapangan kerja baru,” tambah Prof Ahmad.
Kolaborasi dengan Pemkab Tanah Bumbu
ULM berencana menindaklanjuti inovasi ini dengan menjalin kerjasama dengan Pemerintah Kabupaten Tanah Bumbu. Salah satu bentuknya adalah program pendampingan kepada masyarakat, agar mereka bisa mengolah cangkang kepiting secara mandiri menjadi kalsium yang layak jual.
Inovasi ini menjadi bagian dari program riset dan pengabdian masyarakat berbasis lahan basah yang memang menjadi fokus ULM, mengingat sekitar 33,33% wilayah Kalimantan Selatan merupakan kawasan lahan basah.
Inovasi ULM Berbasis Lahan Basah
Sebelumnya, ULM juga telah menciptakan berbagai inovasi berbasis potensi lokal, seperti kopi mangrove, naget bandeng, dan lainnya. Untuk memperkuat program ini, ULM memiliki Unit Penunjang Akademik (UPA) Lahan Basah yang bertugas menjalin kerjasama teknis dengan pihak ketiga.
“Kami juga memiliki Kawasan Hutan Dengan Tujuan Khusus (KHDTK) seluas 1.627 hektare. Di sana sudah dibangun berbagai fasilitas termasuk barak mahasiswa, yang dibantu oleh perusahaan,” terang Prof Ahmad.
Langkah ULM ini menunjukkan bagaimana pendidikan tinggi bisa berperan langsung dalam memajukan daerah, dengan cara memberdayakan potensi lokal dan meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat melalui inovasi dan riset terapan.
